Trail Rides

Full gallop at the Race Track

Duration: 2 hours in the saddle
Age limit: 9 years old
Level of riding: Advanced/Intermediate

This trail has it all! We start at the yard with a small intro and then prepare our horses.

We begin by heading toward Molyvos Castle on the back, sandy roads of Molyvos before riding uphill to the local race track. Every year, horse races are held here for the name day celebration of our churches. Depending on the rider level, we either do a controlled canter or race each other at full gallop.

Once the adrenaline rush is over, we descend the mountain. On hot days, we stop at a natural spring with fresh water for the horses where we often encounter sheep who also come by for a drink. We then turn toward the nearby forest “Alysos,” where we canter in the shade of the trees.

Steep ride of Petri

Duration: 4 hours in the saddle
Age limit: 9 years old
Level of riding: Advanced

This mountain trail takes us along centuries-old paths still used today. It is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the past since this how the ancient Greeks traveled between villages and transported goods. We ride past churches, over wooden bridges and ancient cobblestones, and view the ruins of the ancient water mill of Ligonas, which dates back to the 3rd century.

Ascending steep hills, we reach the mountain village of Petri with only 50 residents, built in traditional architecture of stone and wood. There we stop for a small coffee break while enjoying the mesmerizing view of nearby Petra. This ride has a few opportunities for fast canters as the terrain is challenging, and on the way back we walk next to the horses for about 10 minutes. There also are other animal encounters on this trail, as we pass sheep and cow farms where the animals are not fenced; sometimes a friendly donkey follows us for a small part of the trail!

Coastal stretch to Skala Sikamnia
(seasonal availability)

Duration: 6 hours in the saddle
Age limit: 9 years old
Level of riding: Advanced

This is a long-distance trail covering 30 km. We start at the yard and travel through Eftalou and past the hot springs to take the coastal road that leads to Skala Sikamnia. On the way, we encounter breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and Turkey’s coastline on one side, and the magnificent mountain of Lepetimnos on the other. You won’t stop looking around!

We take a long break at an authentic Greek tavern with local food and beverages, unwinding to the sound of the water breaking on the rocks right at our feet. After lunch—if needed and depending on your preference—we can take a small siesta or a coffee at the beachfront before heading back.

This trail has many opportunities for full gallops, both on the way to Skala Sikamnia and on the way back.

Stroll Around the Water Reservoir

Duration: 35 minutes in the saddle
Age limit: 5 years old
Level of riding: All levels

This trail is fun for all levels! Experienced riders can go fast and enjoy a few canters, but it also is great as an introduction to horse riding.

We start by preparing the horses together. Once everyone is ready, a guide will walk next to your horse, giving you as much assistance as you need. If you are comfortable managing your horse, we will cover any specifics about your horse so you can be on your own. If you feel more comfortable with our assistance, we will have complete control over the horse you ride. This makes it a great trail for children and first-timers.

We ride around a man-made lake that stores water for the dry season. Though we stay close to the yard, the view is beautiful as we can see the yard, the castle of Molyvos in the distance, and our reflection on the tranquil water of the lake.

The lake is a sanctuary for many species of birds; because it attracts rare birds seasonally, it also is a popular destination for birdwatchers.

Light a Candle at The Cloister of Agia Fotini

Duration: 1 hour in the saddle
Age limit: 6 years old
Level of riding: All levels

This trail is great for all levels! Experienced riders can go fast and enjoy a few canters, while beginners get to walk and enjoy the magnificent views and nature as we travel along the sandy roads of the Ligona area.

On this trail we are happy to adapt to your riding level so the trail is enjoyable for everyone. This is the best ride for people with different skill levels to come together and enjoy horse riding.

We begin by preparing the horses together before walking toward the area of Ligona that is between Molyvos, Petra, Bafios, and Petri villages. When we reach the chapel of Agia Fotini, you are welcome to go in and light a candle (just be sure to bring some coin change if you do).

This trail offers breathtaking views of the bay area of Petra, and you can spot both mountain villages as well as the magnificent castle of Molyvos on the way back. Our dogs love joining us on this ride, as they get to cool off in some water springs along the way.

If you are a beginner rider, this trail is best suited for athletic/active people as it can be stiff on the muscles for first timers.

Swim With the Horses
(Seasonal Availability)

Duration: 2 hours in the saddle
Age limit: 9 years old
Level of riding: Advanced/Intermediate

For this ride, you will need to wear swimwear under your riding clothes and bring a small bottle of water, a towel, and sunscreen.

We first prepare the horses and then head out in the direction of Eftalou. As you take in the scenic nature of the area, you also will enjoy opportunities for trot and canter. Once we reach the beach, we dismount and remove all gear (saddles, clothes, etc.), before getting back on the horse bareback. Depending on the weather and the sea, we either go knee-high into the water or deep enough that the horses will swim with us.

This is a unique experience that our horses love, and which helps their coats shine for the rest of the season once they come in contact with the salty water. We wish we could offer this trail for all riders, but unfortunately due to the distance from the yard it only is available to advanced and intermediate riders. If you can do a rising trot/posting you are welcome to join us!

If the weather does not permit swimming, please ask us about our beach rides.
